Activities available in Mahamba Gorge

Region: Shiselweni
Attraction Type: Landscape/Scenic

Mahamba Gorge

Mahamba Gorge lies west of Nhlangano off the tar
road to the Mahamba border. Immediately before the
border gate, turn right to the scenic Gorge. There you will find a newly developed tourism centre with a café and rustic, but luxurious, stone cottages. All cottages are full-equipped and are available on a self catering basis.

The gorge terrain offers excellent photographic opportunities, while birders can also have a field day. Giant hamerkop nests are found in the forest on the short, easy trail to the "beach" on the river banks. Activities within this region include hiking, mountain biking (take your own), fishing, or simply relaxing in the comfort of this wonderfully peaceful environment.

As well as offering accommodation, this small, perfectly formed community is also an ideal place to stop for a picnic. Additional to the cottages the gorge also offers tent and caravan sites with full amenities are available to accommodate up to 12 people.
Mahamba Gorge offers wonderful hiking and biking trails, birding opportunities and lots more. Guided and cultural tours are also available.

Mahamba Gorge is just one of the community tourism projects in Swaziland. Click here to find out about other similar tourism in the community initiatives.
